IMPHAL, Apr 5: At least 10 villagers of Konsakhul including the village chief and the chairman sustained injuries when an unruly mob numbering around 300 backed by armed militants attacked Konsakhul villagers this afternoon.
The injured village chief and the chairman were brought to RIMS at around 3 pm and they are presently undergoing treatment at the Hospital.
The other injured persons were given medical treatment at PHC Khurkhul.
The injured village chief has been identified as Aimson Abonmei (55) s/o (L) Alempu while the chairman has been identified as D Adam (45) s/o Tombou.
Both of them are residents of Konsakhul, Kangpokpi district under Leimakhong police station.
It is suspected that the incident broke out due to a land dispute between Konsakhul and Haraothel.
According to some Konsakhul villagers who brought the injured victims to RIMS Hospital, a large group of people belonging to the Kuki community came to Konsakhul while the villagers were working in paddy fields this afternoon.
All of a sudden, the Kuki people started assaulting the Konsakhul villagers without giving any reason, they alleged.
The assault upon the villagers of Konsakhul by the huge, unruly Kuki mob went on for more than one hour before security personnel arrived at the village and brought the situation under control.
Only then, the injured persons could be taken to hospital for treatment.
The area is stated to be tense despite the presence of security personnel.
Leaders of different civil society organizations visited the injured persons and condemned the act committed by the unruly Kuki mob upon the villagers of Konsakhul.
Speaking to media persons, social activist Asang Kasar stated that the act of violence committed by the Kuki mob and Kuki militants upon the Konsakhul villagers is a direct challenge to the whole Naga community and is not acceptable.
Asking if there is any hidden agenda behind the act of violence unleashed by Kukis upon Konsakhul villagers when the State has already been witnessing a restive situation for around 2 years, Asang Kasar asked Kukis not to repeat such acts of violence on the peace loving Naga community ever again.
The act of violence was also against their customary law and challenged the whole Naga community, he added.
Notably, Kangpokpi District Magistrate Mahesh Chaudhari issued an order on April 2, 2025 whereby curfew was imposed in Konsakhul, Haraothel and L Phaijang villages with effect from 5 pm of the same until further orders.
Ukhrul Times report :The Konsakhul Village Authority has expressed its deepest anguish and unequivocal condemnation of the inhumane and premeditated attack orchestrated by armed Kuki militants masquerading as civilians and so-called volunteers. The incident, which occurred today at approximately 12.15 pm, marks a dark and shameful chapter in the ongoing pattern of aggression and violence inflicted upon peaceful villagers.
‘On this fateful day, thousands of Kuki militants, under the guise of civilians, descended upon Konsakhul village and launched a sudden, violent assault on our villagers who were peacefully engaged in their agricultural and construction work. Most alarmingly, this armed mob was escorted and supported by none other than ASI Kamgin Vaiphei of Leimakhong Police Station, whose presence not only enabled but emboldened the attackers.
“The sequence of events leading to today’s violence underscores a deeply troubling misuse of administrative power and a coordinated attempt to subjugate and terrorize the people of Konsakhul’ said trhe Village Authority in a statement and gave a detailed account of the build up of the offensives.
“On April 4, 2025, while Konsakhul villagers were lawfully engaged in land leveling and the construction of residential dwellings, police personnel led by ASI Kamgin Vaiphei arrived and presented a photocopied document allegedly issued by the District Magistrate of Kangpokpi, stating that a curfew had been imposed in Konsakhul with retrospective effect from April 2, 2025. Our village council members respectfully conveyed that halting the ongoing work immediately would result in significant financial losses, as private JCB operators had been hired on a daily-wage basis.”
Despite our attempts at dialogue, ASI Kamgin demanded that village representatives report to the Leimakhong Police Station for further discussion. Given the critical nature of the work underway, the village council had no choice but to remain on-site to oversee operations.
What followed the next day was nothing short of a coordinated act of terror. On April 5, 2025, ASI Kamgin Vaiphei returned, this time accompanied by four to five police personnel and hundreds of Kuki militants. These mobs swiftly encircled the village and unleashed a surprise and brutal assault on innocent villagers. Among those grievously assaulted were:
Mr. Adam Dirinamai, Chairman of Konsakhul Village
Mr. Aimson Abonmai, Chief of Konsakhul Village
Mr. Ch Paramchamdin
Mr. Ab Widinbou
Mr Th. Aloipu
Following the assault, the militants brought in their own vehicles and forcibly abducted the injured victims to an undisclosed location.
The fact that ASI Kamgin Vaiphei — a law enforcement officer duty-bound to uphold justice — not only failed to prevent the violence but actively facilitated it, speaks of a gross dereliction of duty and a blatant betrayal of public trust. It must be noted with grave concern that ASI Kamgin of Leilon Veiphei, a neighboring Kuki village with longstanding tensions against Konsakhul — raise serious questions about conflict of interest and bias in the execution of his official duties.
“We strongly believe that this assault was pre-planned, executed with malicious intent, and carried out with the covert support of elements within the administration.
The Konsakhul Village Authority demands the following immediate actions
1. Immediate suspension and criminal investigation of ASI Kamgin Vaiphei for his role in facilitating this violent attack and enabling the abduction of our village leaders.
2. Strict disciplinary action against Kangpokpi District Magistrate Mahesh Chaudhary, who arbitrarily imposed curfew in Konsakhul in the absence of any legitimate law-and-order breakdown, thereby paving the way for this orchestrated attack.
3. Immediate efforts to locate and secure the safe return of the abducted Naga village leaders and to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
4. A high-level inquiry into the collusion between administrative officials and militant elements, and a guarantee that such atrocities shall not be repeated.
We call upon the Government of Manipur, human rights organizations, civil society bodies, and the media to take cognizance of this grave violation of human rights and justice. Konsakhul Village stands united and resolute, and we will not be silenced by terror.
