
IMPHAL, Apr 4 : For the first time, camera traps set up by Tamenglong Forest Division staff and local volunteers in the community forests of Nallong, Lemta, and Lenglong villages in Tamei Forest Range captured multiple photos of the Burmese red serow (locally known as sabeng).
This wild goat antelope which is listed as "near threatened" in IUCN red list is heavily hunted for their meat.
It is also included in the Schedule I of Wildlife Protection Act 1972, which signifies the highest protection for wildlife.
