IMPHAL, Apr 4: Taking strong exception to the disposal and littering of biomedical wastes at the Central Dairy Plant campus, Porompat, the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Director has written to the JNIMS Director to pick up the biomedical wastes and dispose them properly as per the standard protocol.
Notably, the Central Dairy Plant is located next to JNIMS.
Top officials of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department led by the Joint Director and Deputy Directors made a spot inspection of how huge volumes of biomedical wastes are disposed and scattered inside the Central Dairy Plant’s campus this morning.
After the inspection, the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Director wrote to the JNIMS Director to remove the biomedical wastes and dispose them properly as protocol.
Although the Government handed over some portions of the Veterinary complex to JNIMS earlier, the site where JNIMS has been disposing of biomedical wastes belongs to the Veterinary Department, sources said.
Regardless of whether the site belongs to the Veterinary Department or not, disposal of biomedical wastes which can cause health hazards in such a manner without following any protocol is undesirable, said some Veterinary officials.
