IMPHAL, Mar 28 : YWC, Langthabal and PCC, Mayaikoibi completed league stage sweeps to finish runaway Group C and D winners in the ongoing 2nd MNCA U-23 Men's Haobam Biramangol Singh Memorial Trophy 2024-25 today.
YWC not only dented CYCLONE, Thangmeiband's quarterfinal hopes but also completed Group C league stage sweep in the with an 84-run victory at Model Hr Secondary and Oriental College ground.
YWC won the toss and opted to bat first. They were however bundled out for 226 runs in 29.2 overs as CYCLONE bowlers proved effective.
CYCLONE, chasing 227 for the victory, slumped to 142 all out in 28.1 overs despite the opening batters providing a solid start and Ninthoujam Thoiba hitting a 79-ball 107 as Yumnam Chingkheinganba swept the tailenders after Soubam Robinson and Maibam Subash inflicted early damage.
YWC had a shaky start and slipped to 23/4 in 5.4 overs before Heisnam Manikanta 49 off 38 and Soubam Robinson 65 not out off 61 balls came to the rescue and steered the team past the 200-run mark.
Md Aqeel of CYCLONE returned with the best bowling figures of 3/48 in his spell of 8 overs as Oinam Reolin (2/46), Sougaijam Robinson (2/47) and Maibam Napolian (2/33 in 5.2 overs) shared 6 wickets among them.
In reply, Ningthoujam Thoiba and Sougaijam Robinson 12 off 29 forged 79 runs off 11.2 overs for the first wicket but Robinson's departure mark the turning point as no batter could provide a stable partnership to Thoiba who holed out to Y Chingkheinganba on 107 for the 6th wicket when the scoreboard read 133.
Chingkheinganba was the pick of the YWC bowlers finishing with the best figures of 4/13 in 4.1 overs while Roubam Robinson finished with 3/28 in 8 overs and Maibam Subash finished with 2/34.
Soubam Robinson of YWC who produced an all round show was adjudged player of the match.
Elsewhere at Lairenjam Public Ground, RCA, Lilong notched up a 155-run victory over Model Club, Singjamei Chingamakha to extend their winning streak to four games.
Syed Hussain 53 off 40, Md Danish Khan 58 off 32, Md Imran Khan 31 off 49 and Zamir Khan 28 off 31 led the scoring as RCA opted to bat first and posted a commanding total of 263/8 in 40 overs.
Aziz Mirza 2/12, Zamir Khan 2/25 and Naesh Hussain 2/24 then set up Model Club's collapse at 108 in 28.5 overs.
Model Club's Naorem Biyon (3/60) and N Bishal (2/61) shared five wickets as three others picked a wicket apiece in the first innings before they had a horrible chase.
N Bisal 39 off 55, Irungbam Tonton 21 off 35 and Y Suson 10 off 24 were the only double digit run getters for Model Club.
Md Danish Khan was adjudged player of the match.
Meanwhile, KASC, Khomidok beat REYS, Khwai Nagamapal by 5 wickets for the third win in four Group B matches.
KASC dismissed toss winners REYS for 127 runs in 19.3 overs courtesy of Bm Afsar's five-for (5/29 in 7 overs) and Md Rahis Khand (2/43) and chased down the target in 31.1 overs with 5 wickets left to spare as Md Ali Karim anchored with a 98-ball 60.
Kangujam Ringku had earlier topscored for REYS scoring a quickfire 61 off 26 balls. His compatriots Naoshekpam Manglemba 2/18, Sapam Bikash 1/15 and Elangbam Atomba 1/18 were among the wickets for the team.
Bm Afsar was adjudged player of the match.
Meanwhile in a Group D encounter staged at Khangabok Cherapur Public Ground, PCC rode on Takhelmayum Vikash's ton and four wicket haul to seal a huge 177 run victory over RULE, Meitram.
PCC racked up a huge total of 280 runs for all wickets down in 38.2 overs as Takhelmayum Vikash blazed 165 off 97 balls (11 fours and 14 sixes) while Wairokpam Max struck 56 off 48. Vikash (4/19 in 7 overs) and Kangujam Boocker (4/17 in 8 overs) the devastated RULE line up and bowled them out for 103 runs in 26 overs to earn their fifth straight victory.
Jay Singh (4/37), Sanjenbam Suresh (2/64) and Rojit (2/91) shared 8 wickets in the PCC innings before Jay did his best to add 50 off 59 balls in the chase.
T Vikash was eventually adjudged player of the match.
