9th MNCA Elite Tournament S Somokanta's all-round heroics lead TRAU to three of three wins

IMPHAL, Feb 4 : Sanjembam Somokanta produced an all-round performance to earn TRAU, Kwakeithel a commanding 8-wicket win over ESU, Wangkhei Palace Compound in the 9th MNCA W Prahlada and W Ramananda Elite Tournament at Moijing Public Ground, Thoubal.
TRAU chose wisely to field first after winning the toss and restricted ESU to a modest total of 140 runs for 8 wickets in  4 overs thanks to economical performances from as many as 7 bowlers. TRAU then eased to the victory in 30.1 overs by posting 142 with 8 wickets left to spare courtesy of an unbeaten 117-run partnership between Priyojit Kangabam (70 off 75 balls) and Sanjembam Somokanta (50 off 73 balls).
Earlier in the ESU innings, Thokchom Nishikanta scored an unbeaten 56 off 67 balls as Chongtham Mehul Shreth scored 18 off 12 balls and Hanjabam Donba and Hanjabam Naoba scored identical 15 runs.  The innings saw Somorjit Salam lead the TRAU bowling attack and returned with the best figures of 3/24 in 8 overs that included 2 maidens while S Somokanta (2/39 in 8 overs) and Mutum Swabhiman (2/14 in 8 overs) shared four wickets. For ESU, Chitaranjan Sharma claimed both the TRAU wickets to finish with the figures of 2/23 in 7 overs.
S Somokanta was eventually adjudged player of the match.
