Edge of the seat suspense Ahead of Assembly sitting

May not be technically right for this is February, but one may say that year 2025 has started off riding somewhat on a tone of ‘edge of the seat suspense’ and this may be better understood in the backdrop of the fact that the 7th session of the 12th Assembly is scheduled to start from February 10. The ongoing ethnic clash may be said to be central to the air of suspense that has come with the House set to meet from February 10. How things unfold is anyone’s guess, but the air is thick with ‘anticipation of the unknown’ and the stand ‘cannot share all details of meeting with Amit Shah’ of Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata has only gone to make the situation more suspenseful. What did Amit Shah discuss with the Assembly Speaker is one question that must be doing the round among the people and it could mean so many things to different people. With the Opposition Congress more than likely to have rolled up its sleeves to deliver blows where it matters, the coming Assembly session can be anything but lively and interesting and one only hopes that any verbal confrontation does not end up in an exercise of delivering punches below the belt. There are certain rules and regulations in any confrontation and this is the universal rule and one hopes the elected Members of the Assembly do not forget this in a hurry. Making things more interesting is also the war of words between Chief Minister N Biren and deputy leader of the Congress Legislature Party K Ranjit in recent days, the video footage of which has gone viral on the social media. Equally interesting too was the immense comments the said video footage drew from the people who minced no words in speaking out their minds. In between, one has seen the intense verbal exchange of blows between the Chief Minister and Congress MP from Inner Parliamentary Constituency, Bimol Akoijam. This is between the Opposition Congress and the ruling BJP and while such exchange of ideas and thoughts is acceptable and welcome in a democracy, one cannot help but look with interest at so many of the talks which have been doing the round. Such talks can and could be dismissed as having no basis, but it is significant that such talks should do the round when Manipur is still bleeding and the 7th session of the 12th Assembly session is set to start from February 10.
Taking off from where the Assembly Speaker stuck to the line, ‘Cannot share all details of meeting with Amit Shah’, a prominent BJP leader and a Minister to boot is understood to have left for New Delhi on February 3, reportedly after being asked to come by Amit Shah. Not surprisingly this has piqued the interest of many keen observers of political developments in Manipur and add the talks doing the round and many have started adding two and two together to come at their own conclusion. Never mind that to many the two and two may not necessarily add up to four. The fact however is this is what is happening at the moment and perhaps this could be one reason why the coming Assembly session has evoked so much interests. No one knows why the Union Home Minister should reportedly summon some of the BJP leaders of Manipur, but that this has come when the Assembly is set to meet in the next few days has only added that much more suspense. The next few days may make things a little clearer but everything will boil down to how Delhi opts to sound the drum beat. This is about the coming Assembly session and what will make things more interesting is the declaration of Speaker Satyabrata that the NPP MLAs will be made to sit on the Opposition bench, a move that has come about after the NPP earlier announced its decision to walk out of the coalition with the BJP. Again this is where the hands of the ongoing ethnic clash can be read clearly.
