IMPHAL, Feb 3: The Rail Budget has allocated Rs 10,440 crore for the North East region which is five times higher than what was earmarked during the period of the UPA Government, said Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw.
He said this while interacting with mediapersons of North East States and Jammu & Kashmir on the Rail Budget 2025-26 of the Union Government through video conferencing this evening.
He said the enhanced Budget will tremendously improve railway network and services in the NE region.
The Union Minister informed that work is in full swing for upgrading railways services in all the States of the North East even though the task was a difficult one due to the region’s terrain and topography.
He enumerated that in most of the NE States, besides the construction of normal rail lines, the onus is largely on a tunnel-bridge tunnel-bridge basis.
To queries from the mediapersons, Ashwini Vaisnaw said construction of the Mizoram Railway station was progressing well and survey is on for the Rangpo-Gangtok rail line.
The construction of the Barauni-Shillong rail line was facing some resistance but the matter is being sorted out, he said.
Likewise, work is on at a fast pace in all the other States of the North East, he added.
The Railway Minister further informed that Rs 844 crore has been allocated to Jammu & Kashmir in the Rail Budget and electrification of trains has achieved 100 percent.
He further said two Bande Bharat trains were already running from J & K to Delhi.
