IMPHAL, Feb 3 : The 15th edition of the 15th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial State Open Football Tournament kicked off today at Turf Ground, SAI Sports Complex in Takyel.
The 16-team knock-out tournament is organised in memory of Shaheed Manoranjan Singh, a CRPF Assistant Commandant who made  the supreme sacrifice while fighting Naxalites in Chhattisgarh in 2009.
The tournament is organised jointly by the 69 Bn CRPF and Imphal West District Football Association under the aegis of Manipur and Nagaland Sector CRPF and the All Manipur Football Association.
The opening match of the tournament saw SSU, Singjamei beat Juvenile, Tera by a slender 1-0 margin. The lone goal that settled the game was scored by L Roshan in the 11th minute.
The official result of the match has however been withheld following a protest from the Tera side citing "presence of a non eligible player (who did not complete CRS)" in the rival team.
