Wushu players return to heroes welcome

IMPHAL, Feb 3 : State Wushu team who returned home with a rich haul of 7 gold, 8 silver and 2 bronze medals from the ongoing 38th National Games returned to heroes welcome today upon their arrival at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport this afternoon.
The athletes were garlanded during the rousing reception accorded by the family members, friends, wellwishers and sports enthusiasts before they returned to their native places.
The players, speaking to media persons, expressed happiness and attributed their success to the hard work on the part of the coaches and athletes themselves amidst the turmoil situation in the State for the last 20 months.
They also continued that they will work harder in the future to bring laurels to both the State and the country.
Later in the day, a Heingang resident Kangjam Monish, who won a gold medal in the Taijijian event at the Games was accorded a reception by various local clubs in Heingang at Heingang Makha Leikai.
Meanwhile, Hemam Robinson who was in the State wushu squad and won a Sanda event gold medal (men's 52 kg), was felicitated by the Hemam Shagei Development Committee at Moirang Hemam Leikai Community hall.
Oinam Malemnganbi, of Chanung, who won a gold medal in the women's Taijiquan group event was also felicitated at her home village.
