Uttarakhand National Games L Ronaldo wins cycling silver as double gold medallist Athouba's dream run continues

IMPHAL, Feb 3 : As Sarungbam Athouba continues his hunt for third gold after securing two gold medals in triathlon and duathlon events of the 38th National Games being underway in Uttarakhand, State's top cyclist Laitonjam Ronaldo kept Manipur's medal spree intact by securing a silver medal today.
Ronaldo clocked 10.724 seconds to win the silver medal in the men's 200 m sprint competition as Andaman Nicobar's David Bekhame took away the gold with a 10.691 seconds finish and his compatriot Esow settled for the bronze with a time of 10.826 seconds.
With 11 gold, 10 silver and 5 bronze medals, Manipur continues to remain in fourth place in the medal tally as Karnataka climb on top with 22 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, the dream run for double gold medallist Sarungbam Athouba continues as he reached the final round of 200 m individual medley in swimming today.
Athouba, a resident of Singjamei Chingamathak also became the first State swimmer to reach the final round of the said event in a National Games. This was confirmed by Manipur Swimming Association president, Tensubam Thouba, said MOA Media team in a press release.
In the meantime, Athouba’s compatriot Telheiba Soram who got silver medal in men’s (individual) Triathlon competition,was accorded a warm welcome on his arrival at Imphal today.
Archery: The day also saw the Indian Round women's team comprising L Rojina, M Baby, Millenia Thokchom and H Rosina enter the Final Round.
Rowing : Manipur women's quadruple scull team of O Bharati, H Malemyaima, Th Priya and H Tendenthoi also reached the final round of the competition. The final will be held on February 5.
Boxing : Three women boxers also reached quarterfinals of their respective weight categories after Chinglemba and Leninson made it to the same stage yesterday.
The girls who made it to the quarterfinals include S Bijeta, Th Kunjarani and Sovi Jajo.
