IMPHAL, Feb 2 : Laishram Dickson extended Manipur's medal tally in the ongoing 38th National Games clinching a diving bronze medal today at Manaskhand Tarantal, Golapar, Uttarakhand.
Manipur almost drew blank on the fifth day of the games after a flourishing start courtesy of wushu players, weightlifters and triathletes but Laishram Dickson helped Manipur add at least a medal in the form of a bronze medal.
He made it to the podium finish in the Men's 1M Springboard Diving competition by securing the third place with 339 points to his name.
The gold and the silver medals however went to divers of the Services Sports Control Board.
L Dickson is the son of Laishram Chaoba and Laishram Ongbi Bina of Yurembam Awang Leikai. He currently trains at ASI Pune under coach M Kunjakishwor.
Boxing : Chinglemba, Leninson enter next round
The day also saw State boxers Chinglemba Singh and Thongam Leninson box their way into the next stage of their competition.
Chinglemba outshone Nikhil Bhuya of Jharkhand by a 5-0 unanimous decision in the 51 kg bout to progress into the next round as Thongam Leninson, participating in the 63.5 kg category outpunched his Karnataka opponent in the same fashion to earn next round berth.
Compatriot Oinam Brandon, however, bowed out with an RSC loss to Md Rahil of Maharashtra in a 71 kg category bout. Thounaojam Alena Devi, representing Manipur in the women's 66 kg category, also ended her campaign with a 0-5 loss to Himachal Pradesh rival Deepika.
The boxing competition is underway at Hari Thapa Sports College Indoor Stadium.
Football : Women crash out with 1-2 loss to Delhi
State's women football team ended their campaign in the Uttarakhand games today with a 1-2 loss to Delhi at Indira Gandhi International Sports Complex, Haldwani.
It was the second loss for Manipur women having gone down to West Bengal earlier. They could only manage a 3-0 win against hosts Uttarakhand in as many as three games.
Manipur are fourth till the filing of the report on 11 gold, 9 silver and 5 bronze medals as Services Sports Control Board remain atop with 17 gold, 9 silver and 7 bronze medals.
