Wildfire rages

MOIRANG, Feb 15: A wildfire broke out and raged at Okshongbung Khunou, Bishnupur district and sur-rounding places this after- noon.
Okshongbung Khunou is located above Moirang high canal, adjacent to the Kuki villages of Molsang and Gelmol under Moirang police station.
Okshongbung Khunou is currently a red zone. Before the violent conflict erupted, Meiteis inhabited the village.
The Meitei families abandoned the village after the conflict erupted.
There are many abandoned Meitei houses at the village.
On the other hand, Central security forces have been guarding the Moirang high canal area.
There are Kuki villages on either side of Okshong-bung Khunou but the Kuki villages too look deserted.
Although the exact cause was not known, a wildfire broke out at Okshongbung Khunou at around 1 pm and it quickly spread to the adjoining places, creating a panicky situation among the people living in nearby areas.
Nonetheless, fire tenders of Moirang Fire Station, Moirang police and troops of CRPF and Sikh Regiment managed to contain the inferno after a hard struggle. Control Room, Manipur Fire Service said it was able to avoid a major fire disaster at Keibul Lamjao National Park at noon. Forest guards and fire service personnel controlled another fire at Thoubal's Shalungpham Maning Sharam Ching at around 1.40 pm. The fire service also put out a fire at Tharoijam Mayai Leikai. Paddy stalks kept at the property of one Phamdom Khoidong caught fire at 1.50 pm, but it was put out before it spread to the house.
