IMPHAL, Feb 15: The Tribal Youth Council Mani-pur (TYCM) has urged the State Government, House Committee and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to investigate the alleged mismanagement and misuse of Rs 30.36 crore in the Tribal Affairs & Hills (TA&H) Department to expedite the investigation process and take appropriate legal action based on the findings at the earliest, and recover the misappropriated amount from the officials involved.
As per official documents, it has come to light that five former officials of the TA&H Department, all of whom served as Joint Directors/DDOs, were alle- gedly involved in the mismanagement and misuse of welfare funds amounting to Rs 30.36 crore, said a press release issued by TYCM.
Welfare funds are public money meant to ensure the development of society. The alleged misuse or mismanagement of Rs 30.36 crore constitutes a clear act of fraud, embezzlement, and misappropriation of public resources, it said.
TYCM is closely examining the matter in pursuit of justice and accountability. As rightful stakeholders, the tribal people of Manipur have the right to know the truth and demand accountability for the mismanagement of welfare funds, it said. Such misuse or mismanagement of public funds has been hindering development of tribal communities in the State. The Government of Manipur should ensure transparency and accountability in the use of public funds, it added.
