IMPHAL, Feb 14: The All Manipur Bulk LPG Transporters Association (AMBTA) may go ahead with its suspended cease work strike from Sunday.
Following an understanding reached with the Chief Secretary at a meeting held on January 29, the AMBTA suspended its ceasework strike till February 15.
AMBTA is engaged in transporting LPG in bulk from IOCL’s LPG loading points located in Assam to the Sekmai bottling plant.
Since the ongoing violent crisis erupted on May 3, 2023, LPG transporters started moving on Imphal-Jiribam highway (NH-37) in place of NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur highway).
Pointing out that NH-37 is much longer and its condition is far worse than NH-2, AMBTA has been contending that the transportation charge given to them is too little and they are running into losses.
They have been demanding the Government to compensate the losses they incurred in transporting LPG along NH-37.
Two rounds of talks were held on January 13 and January 29. As the Government and the LPG transporters reached an agreement on certain conditions, the AMBTA suspended its ceasework strike till February 15.
One key functionary of AMBTA told The Sangai Express the Chief Secretary reportedly assured them that he would go to Delhi and see that the LPG transporters’ demands are addressed positively after talking with officials concerned.
But AMBTA is unable to make any further communication with the Chief Secretary. As such, the LPG transporters are likely to resume the suspended the cease work strike, said the functionary.
