IMPHAL, Jan 9 : Local clubs and meira paibis of Lamphel Sanakeithel area have imposed a social boycott on Khwairakpam Raghumani, MLA, Uripok Assembly Constituency for allegedly failing to withdraw the police complaint filed against one Laishram David Khumancha.
David is the vice president of Lamphel Sanakeithel Development Authority (LSKDA) and the Uripok AC MLA reportedly filed a complaint against him at Lamphel police station for vandalizing the MLA's residence on November 16, 2024.
It may be noted that on November 16, angry mobs vandalized the residences of State legislators in various constituencies in the wake of the brutal killing of three women and three children in Jiribam by Kuki militants.
A press conference was organised in this connection at Manipur Press Club today by LSKDA, Lamphel Sanakeithel Nupi Kanglup and Awa Tengbang Lup.
Speaking to media persons, Hijam Nabakanta, secretary general, LSKDA strongly condemned the act and informed that the police sent a summon to L David on January 6.
The next morning, an emergency public meeting was convened at Lamphel Sanakeithel with the participation of local clubs, meira paibis etc from the area.
Following a detailed discussion, they sent a request to MLA Kh Raghumani to withdraw the police complaint and stop the arrest of L David, failing which a social boycott will be imposed on the MLA from January 8. They also sent appeals to Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup and COCOMI, among others, seeking their help in the matter, said the LSKDA secretary.
As the Uripok AC MLA has failed to withdraw the complaint, local clubs, meira paibis and the public of Lamphel Sanakeithel have boycotted him and prohibited his entry in the region, declared Hijam Nabakanta.
