Drugs set ablaze

IMPHAL, Jan 8 : Progressive Alliance for Leadership and Empowerment of Mothers (PALEM) and  World Meetei Organisation (WMO) set ablaze a large quantity of opium and heroin at Lamdeng today.
As per the two organisations, 75 Kg of opium and 37 soap cases of heroin were seized from two different places on December 28 and December 19 respectively.
Displaying the seized drug before the media, PALEM organisation secretary M Reena said that they seized the opium which weighed around 75 Kg  and packed in 99 bags from a trailer truck parked at Mantripukhri on December 28.
WMO womens' wing president W Ashalata, on the other hand, said that they along with volunteers of Friends' Union Club, Khurai Heikrumakhong rounded up two women along 34 soap cases of heroin on December 19.
She said that the seized drug might be worth over Rs one crore in the international market.
The seized heroin and opium were burnt by digging a pit at Lamdeng in front of the people later.
