IMPHAL, Jan 7: The Pambei-led UNLF has refuted the Central forces’ allegation of violating the peace agreement ground rules as baseless.
The outfit signed a peace agreement with the Government of India and the Government of Manipur on November 29, 2023.
On January 4, 2025, The Hindu carried a news report of Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla asserting that members of the outfit violating the peace agreement ground rules must be arrested under the National Security Act (NSA), 1980.
But the Governor’s decision/statement was based on false reports, the outfit said in a press release issued by its DOP Director Charairongba Thokchom. By coming to such a hasty decision without authenticating the reports furnished to him, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has demeaned his ethics and integrity, it said. The Governor’s hasty decision/direction has evoked a serious question whether he is working to sabotage the comprehensive political dialogue which would be held between the Government of India and the outfit, it said. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla should acknowledge that any act or intention of sabotaging the proposed political dialogue would prove to be a serious hurdle to resolving the Manipur-India political conflict, it said. The outfit said that it has been closely watching the sincerity of India in the backdrop of the current issue of Manipur.
If the outfit has violated any ground rules, it should be tabled before the Peace Monitoring Committee (PMC) for examination by both the parties and exploring a solution, it added.
