IMPHAL, Jan 7 : The Foothill Naga Joint Action Committee has condemned the assault on a Naga woman by a 'gang of Kukis' at K Lungwiram today.
The Committee, in a condemnation note, said that Kukis outraged the modesty of the Naga woman in broad daylight apart from brutally assaulting her.
Saying that the 'calculated attack and molestation of a Naga woman' on her own land is a direct challenge to the identity and dignity of the Naga people as a whole, the Committee asserted that the abominable crime and unforgivable act committed by the community that has sought refuge on Naga soils reflect total disregard to the age old principle of peaceful coexistence which the Nagas uhold. Kukis have crossed all limits, it said while urging the authorities concerned to apprehend and hold the perpetrators accountable.
The Committee also said that the leadership of the Kuki community must issue a formal and sincere apology to both the victim and the Naga people within 48 hours.
The Committee will take appropriate measures to protect and safeguard the interest of Nagas if the demands are not heeded, it said and asked the Kuki leaders to take all responsibility if there is bloodshed in the region.
