JIRIBAM, Jan 5 : Outpatient Department of 50 bedded Jiribam Hospital and office of Jiribam Chief Medical Officer (CMO) have been locked over the appointment of a new CMO today.
The hospital and office of the CMO were locked by District Hospital Monitoring Committee, Jiribam, civil society organisations and meira paibi lups of the district in the morning today.
Speaking to the media in this regard, convenor of the hospital monitoring committee N Sadananda Meetei said that they along with the people of the district have been urging the Government to upgrade Jiribam Hospital to a full fledged hospital and to post adequate number of doctors at the hospital since a long time.
Saying that a meeting was convened in the presence of Government representatives over the transfer of some doctors from Jiribam Hospital recently, he added that a demand to appoint a qualified person as the CMO of Jiribam and to send three specialist doctors were raised during the meeting.
The Government, however, appointed a low grade doctor as the CMO of Jiribam in place of the previous CMO who is qualified and has enough experience, he said and added that the conduct of the Government shows the disregard for the people of Jiribam. He said that the OPD of Jiribam Hospital and the CMO office will be locked until the Government gives some positive response.
