IMPHAL, Jan 5: With a launching function held today at MG Avenue here under the aegis of the Transport Department and Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Manipur State Branch, the National Road Safety Month 2025 has been launched in the State.
Transport Minister Khashim Vashum, Transport Secretary Michael Achom, Transport Director Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam and IRCS Manipur State Branch Chairman Narendra Ningomba attended the function as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the function, Khashim Vashum emphasised the importance of smooth coordination between the Transport Department and law enforcing agencies.
He said that the Transport Department is one department which has been receiving maximum complaints.
He appealed to all the people to stop lodging complaints when underage individuals or persons without driving licences are pulled up by law enforcing agencies and appealed to all parents to see that their underage children do not drive. Such unlawful activities should not be condoned just because the children happen to be sons/daughters of Ministers or people in power.
Khashim Vashum asked law enforcing agencies to take up strong actions against people driving after consuming alcohol.
Police, Traffic Police and Transport Department must check modification of silencer pipes which are producing much louder sounds and thereby causing nuisance to the public, the Transport Minister said.
He underscored the need for all stakeholders to work collectively in order to ensure maximum road safety.
IRCS Manipur State Branch Chairman Narendra Ningomba highlighted the importance of knowing road safety rules and strict compliance with these rules by all the citizens.
