IMPHAL, Jan 5 : United Committee Manipur (UCM) president YK Dhiren has called for unity among the indigenous people of Manipur so as to put up a collective fight against the force inimical to the State interest.
Dhiren made the appeal during a discussion programme held as part of National Reconsolidation Month at Wabagai Lamkhai Community Hall today.
At the function, Dhiren said that disunity among the State leadership is evident in contemporary Manipur society with the factors being political differences and personal interests.
The current situation in Manipur is similar to that of Chahi Taret Khuntakpa which posed an existential threat to the Meeteis, he said. He claimed that the successive Governments of India never stopped scheming to balkanise Manipur since the erstwhile kingdom merged with India.
Further claiming that the Government of India has been fuelling social unrest, Dhiren maintained that the future of Manipur will be jeopardised if there is no sense of oneness among the people of Manipur.
The programme was attended by United People's Front president N Rupachandra, Wabagai Lamkhai Lairembi Club secretary Th Premchand, Wabagai Apunba Nupi Lup president Y Mangi and Wabagai Development Association president Y Purnimasi among others.
