IMPHAL, Jan 3 : The State Level School Sports Meet 2024-25 organised by the Directorate of Education (Schools) was formally inaugurated today here at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
The inaugural function of the sports meet which will see 1070 students from across the State compete for top honours in 10 sports disciplines was attended by H Gyan Prakash, Commissioner, Education-S; L Nandakumar Singh, Director Education (S); T Phulen, Director Youth Affairs and Sports among others as dignitaries.
The disciplines of the sports meet include Football, Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Mukna, Badminton, Athletics, Cricket, Carrom, Chess and Yoga.
Before the meet was officially declared open, the chief guest of the function H Gyan Prakash, Commissioner, Education-S took march past salutes from participating zonal and district contingents.
Day 1 highlight
Athletics
The first day of the sports meet saw Th Gottakumar of Kakching win the 1500 m race for senior boys taking 4:48. 57 (four minutes and 48.57 seconds) as Kh Anuraj of Thoubal (4:49.61) and L Shrinivash of Bishnupur (5:00.09) finished second and third.
S Rahul Meetei of Bishnupur meanwhile topped the long-jump event for junior boys with a 5.29 m finish as L Stalin of Imphal East (5.15 m) and Kh Rishi of Bishnupur (5.15 m) finished second and third.
In the junior girls' long jump event, Ph Athoi of Imphal East claimed the top honour with a 3.71 m jump as Th Shilky of Bishnupur (3/70 m) and L Langlensana of Imphal West (3/68 m) finished second and third.
In the senior boys long-jump event, H Benarji of Bishnupur finished atop with a 5.65 m finish as S Umriel Mangang of Imphal East (5.46 m) and M Nokul of Kakching (5.41 m) finished second and third.
Ch Christina of Imphal West secured the senior girls seal the long-jump top honour with a 3.74 m finish as L Bindiya of Imphal West (3.66 m) and W Nandeshwori of Kakching (3.29 m) finished second and third.
Volleyball
The day also saw Thoubal beat Bishnupur in straight sets (25-10, 25-15, 25-11) in the opening match.
In the second match Chandel beat Kakching 25-16, 25-12, 25-11.
Kho-Kho
Thoubal beat Imphal West (Wangoi) by 29-7 points in the opening Kho-Kho match for boys before Bishnupur beat Kakching 16-7 in the girls' opener.
