IMPHAL, Jan 3 : The Naga People's Organization (NPO) has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to appoint K Moses Chalai, IAS (1990 MT Cadre) as the Chief Secretary of Manipur.
Notably, the post of Chief Secretary is yet to be filled after the transfer of Dr Vineet Joshi. An official order for the transfer of Joshi was issued on December 25, 2024.
In a letter to the Union Home Minister submitted through Deputy Commissioner, Senapati, NPO pointed out that no Naga officer has ever been appointed to the post of Chief Secretary of Manipur.
Though there were senior Naga officers in the past who were eligible for the post, they were all sidelined, claimed NPO.
It asserted that Naga officers like Ameising Luikham and Ramnganing Muivah were overlooked in the past by diverting them to posts outside the State.
Saying that officers from the Meitei and Kuki communities have held the prestigious post, NPO highlighted K Moses Chalai's eligibility for the position based on seniority and experience.
Moses Chalai has served in various capacities, has extensive administrative experience and is capable of holding the post of Chief Secretary of Manipur, it said.
NPO added that the appointment of K Moses Chalai will instil faith among the Nagas that appointments to the post of Chief Secretary of Manipur are non-partisan, especially towards the deserving Naga officers.
Thus, NPO has urged the Home Minister's Office to give due consideration to their request.
