DESAM talks education on 23rd foundation day

IMPHAL, Jan 3 : On the occasion of the 23rd foundation day of the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), president Mayengbam Somorjit highlighted the importance of education terming it as the backbone for development and growth of a society.
The ceremony was held today at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal based on the theme "Impact of present crisis on education of Manipur".
The gathering paid floral tributes and observed a two-minute silence to honour the deceased members of DESAM as well as the lives lost in the ongoing conflict.
Speaking as the functional president, M Somorjit extended wishes to the people on the occasion of its 23rd foundation day.
He said that people engaged in different occupations are sometimes motivated by selfish interests instead of working collectively for the betterment of society.
In order to curb such behaviour and create a robust society and State, education should make students aware of how their learning will contribute to the advancement of Manipur, he said.
At the event, DESAM's monthly journal Lamjing Meira Volume IV Issue 1 was released.
The student body also honoured Salam Meghachandra Singh, Mathematics teacher, CC Higher Secondary School with the Chingu Maichou Khongnangthaba (Chi-Ma-Kha) Award. The award comes with a citation, shawl and Rs 5000 in cash.
The event was graced by W Nabakumar Singh, retd Professor, Department of Anthropology, Manipur University as the chief guest and P Nipendro Singh, Principal, Model Higher Secondary School and recipient of State Award To Teachers 2024 as the guest of honour.
