NIELIT Deemed to be University inaugurated

IMPHAL, Jan 3: National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Deemed to be University was inaugurated by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Union Minister of Electronic and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw and Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma at Guwahati today.
Students and teachers of NIELIT Imphal Centre participated in the launching programme from Imphal in virtual mode.
The programme was held at the seminar hall of NIELIT Imphal Centre along with 11 other constituent units at different centres viz; Aizawl, Ajmer, Agartala, Aurangabad, Cali-cut, Gorakhpur, Kohi-ma, Patna, Itanagar and Srina-gar.
Scientist F and Head (Projects) N Debachandra gave a brief account of the different activities taken up by NIELIT and its Imphal Centre.
He said that January 3, 2025 will remain a landmark date in the history of NIELIT.
He claimed that NIELIT is a very old institute and it has been producing volumes of knowledge related to industries.
NIELIT has been working to bridge the knowledge gap that exists between the region and the modern industries, he said.
Since many years back, it was considered to convert NIELIT into a skill development university. It was in 2023 that an ordinance was promulgated whereby approval was given for upgrading NIELIT as a deemed university, Debachandra said.
With NIELIT now upgraded as a deemed university, its development will gather pace and it will be able to enhance its different activities, he said.
The deemed university will have constituent campuses at 11 different places including Imphal, he added.
Special invitees/resource persons Manipur University, NIT Manipur, Manipur Institute of Technology, Biramangol College, Manipur Technical University, Bir Tikendrajit University, MIMS, Medical Directorate, Babina Group of Company etc spoke and applauded the journey made by NIELIT Imphal Centre so far to become a constituent unit of NIELIT Deemed to be University.
NIELIT Imphal Centre Executive Director Dr Yumnam Jayanta Singh physically attended the launch programme of NIELIT Deemed to be University at Guwahati where an MoU was signed between NIELIT and Tata Electronics Private Limited to collaborate on enhancing semiconductor skilling ecosystem in India.
