IMPHAL, Jan 3 : Manipur went down by 6-wickets to Assam in their sixth Group A match of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy at Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground in Jaipur.
Manipur won the toss and opted to bat first.
They however faced stiff opposition from Assam bowlers and were dismissed for a meagre total of 162 runs in 50 overs. Assam then chased down the target in 36.5 overs with 6 wickets left to spare.
Manipur started wobbly and lost wickets in regular intervals before they collapsed at 162 as Avinov Choudhury (3/25), Darshan Rajbongshi (2/18) and Mukhtar Hussain (2/40) shared 7 crucial wickets.
M Langlonyamba topscored for Manipur adding 36 runs followed by Chongtham Mehul 27, RK Rex 21, Bishworjit Konthoujam 18 not out, Ulenyai Khwairakpam 11 and Kishan Thokhom 10.
In reply, Assam were reduced to 58/4 in 14 overs but Denish Das (55 off 77 balls; 5 fours) and Saahil Jain (54 off 74 balls; 6 fours) forged an unbeaten partnership of 105 runs for the 5th wicket to take Assam to the target.
Manipur skipper Bishorjit Konthoujam returned with two wickets (2/28) and Rex Rajkumar picked one wicket (1/35).
Manipur will play Haryana in the final Group A match on January 5 at Dr Soni Stadium, Jaipur.
