UKHRUL, Jan 30 : Demanding immediate revocation of Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner Zuringla Kengoo's transfer order, Tangkhul CSOs staged sit-in protests at two different locations today and called for her continued service as Ukhrul DC.
It may be noted that Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and its frontal organizations also submitted a letter to Chief Minister N Biren Singh yesterday requesting him to rescind the transfer order of Kengoo Zuringla.
Speaking to Ukhrul media persons, Thingreiphy Lungharwo, president of Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Ukhrul stated that the protests were held in front of the DC's Quarters at Tangrei and Mini Secretariat Office Complex at Hamleikhong, Ukhrul.
The public sit-in protest clearly shows that the people of Ukhrul district are in favour of the immediate cancellation of DC Zuringla's transfer order and continued service as District Administrator of Ukhrul, said Thingreiphy Lungharwo.
She also informed that the protests will continue on rotational shifts.
Meanwhile, Sword Vashum, president of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) termed the transfer of the senior IAS officer as an insult to the Tangkhul community as she was reportedly asked to hand over the charge in less than 24 hours.
After learning about the transfer of the Ukhrul DC, he called Chief Minister N Biren Singh. The call went through but it was not picked up, claimed Sword.
He strongly asserted that the Tangkhul CSOs have decided to disallow the transfer order of the Ukhrul DC to be executed or carried out.
The protestors held banners which read "Ukhrul deserves good governance",  "Respect stability, revoke the DC's transfer order", "No new DC in Ukhrul" and "Listen the people's voice".
Reportedly the newly posted Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Ashish Das, arrived in Ukhrul to take over the administrative charge.
But upon seeing the public protest in town, he later left Ukhrul.
On another note, the letter submitted to the Chief Minister yesterday bearing the signature of the representatives of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), Tangkhul Naga Awunga Long (TNAL); Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) and Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) made an appeal to retain the Ukhrul DC for at least two more years.
Calling for revocation of the transfer order, the letter informed the Chief Minister of the Ukhrul DC's "outstanding public service and leadership" and stressed on her "humane and no-nonsense approach and disposition of her public and official responsibilities".
Asserting that the people of Ukhrul district have been favoured with a highly effective and efficient Deputy Commissioner, it appealed the Chief Minister to rescind Zuringla Kengoo's transfer order in public interest.
