Manipur pays tributes to Gandhiji on Martyr's Day

IMPHAL, Jan 30 : Manipur joined the Nation in observing Martyr's Day, also known as Shaheed Diwas, at Gandhi Memorial Hall in Imphal to commemorate the 77th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today.
The event organised by the State Government witnessed Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister N Biren Singh leading the people in paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi by laying wreaths at his statue.
Speaking to media persons, Chief Minister N Biren Singh extended Martyrs' Day greetings to the people of the State and India.
The event kicked off with the singing of three bhajans dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. Sirens were also sounded two times, the first signalling the observance of a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed freedom fighters and the second being the closing signal.
The ceremony was also graced by Thongam Biswajit Power Minister; Dr Sapam Ranjan Health Minister; Awangbow Newmai, Water Resources Minister; Th Basanta Kumar, Education Minister; Khashim Vashum, Transport Minister; Leishangthem Susindro, CAF&PD Minister; Heikham Dingo, Social Welfare Minister; Leishemba Sanajaoba, MP, Rajya Sabha, MLAs and top civil and police officers.
