IMPHAL, Jan 29 : The All Manipur Bulk Transporters Association (AMBTA) has suspended its proposed protest against non-payment of compensation to LPG transporters till February 15 following a meeting with Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh today.
Earlier, AMTA had stated that they will stop transporting LPG along Imphal-Jiribam road from February 1 if their demand to provide compensation to bulk LPG transporters is not entertained by the State Government and IOCL.
Speaking to the media after meeting the Chief Secretary at Old Secretariat today, a representative of AMTA said that they decided to suspend the protest as the Chief Secretary has requested them to give him 15 days to look into the matter.
Saying that LPG transporters have been using Imphal-Jiribam road instead of Imphal-Dimapur since May 2023 as per the instruction by the IOCL and the State Government for security reasons, he added that what they actually agreed with the IOCL during the tender was to transport LPG along Imphal-Dimapur road.
He also said that they have been taking Imphal-Jiribam road which takes more time and is riskier than Imphal-Dimapur road in the interest of the people.
Saying that movement along Imphal-Jiribam road has become a permanent route for them though the Government and the IOCL had repeatedly stated that it is a temporary measure, he added that they had stopped transporting for 4-5 days over the same issue some time back.
He said that they will stop transporting LPG from February 16 if the State Government fails to understand their plight and meet their demand.
