Fill up vacant posts, urges TNL

IMPHAL, Jan 29: All vacant posts of teachers, particularly of Sciences, Mathematics and English in educational institutions in the hills must be filled by April 2025, the Tangkhul Naga Long has demanded.
Educational institutions are the bedrock and anchor of "our future". The vacancies must be filled immediately and all schools in the hills must have the sanctioned strength of teaching and non-teaching staff, it said in a statement.
All educational institutions have sanctioned strength of a given number of teaching and non-teaching staff. The sanctioned strength of all the institutions in all the districts are all covered and provided for in the Budget each year (salaries & allowances plus establishment), it said.
However, all institutions in the hills are suffering chronic shortage of teaching staff particularly for the most essential subjects like Mathematics, Science, English etc, it said.
"Given the fact that 50% and more of the sanctioned posts of teaching staff for the non-Council schools in the hills remain unutilised, how would the Govt justify 100% utilization of budgeted allocations of funds for all the educational institutions in the hills every single year?" TNL asked.
"How does the Government justify the utterly insane manipulative practice of transferring/posting staff to schools in the hills but utilizing them in the valley ? Is this not a testament to undying valley chauvinism?" it asked.
Another spectacular and unique feature of the Manipur Government is allowing “duty performance” by proxy on rent cutting across the departments but notoriously rampant in educational institutions in the hills, TNL asserted.
"Such rampageous vicious culture, if not nibbed in the bud, would surely strangulate the soul of our future," it added.
The vacant posts lying in the institutions in the hills, particularly of Sciences, Mathematics and English must be filled by April, it said.
Further, strict enforcement of accountability at every level of designated departmental and institutional authorities as per the law is a sine qua non for the success of any organisation/institution. Institution/organisation without accountability is simply a curse for the society, it added.
