NSUI begins membership drive

IMPHAL, Jan 28 : The National Students' Union of India, Manipur unit has launched "Hum Badlenge Movement", a Nationwide initiative aimed at empowering students, and its membership today.
Speaking at the launch function held at Congress Bhavan, NSUI, Manipur president Joyson Kh appealed to all students across the State to enrol at NSUI which he said is the largest democratic students' organisation.
Saying that Hum Badlenge Movement and its membership drive were launched in Manipur under the supervision of its president Varun Choudhary to make NSUI stronger and more vibrant, he added that their movement is to make the students believe in values and principles that Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi stood for apart from promoting gender equality, social justice and secularism.
Claiming that the BJP Government's interference in education has been a topic of concern, Joyson charged that BJP and RSS have ruined the education system of the country.
Apart from attempting to saffronise education, the BJP and RSS promote social discrimination in the education sector, he alleged.
NSUI National coordinator Th Langonba said that the protracted crisis in Manipur has taken a heavy toll on students. The BJP Government has been keeping the students in the dark by letting them take up arms, he added.
Claiming that the Government intimidates those who dare to speak the truth, he added that students have a major role to play in the fight against injustice and in promoting social change.
