Kho-Kho World Cup winner Sinam Rokeshon returns to hero's welcome

IMPHAL, Jan 25 : Kho-Kho World Cup gold medallist Sinam Rokeshon of Awang Sekmai returned to a warm reception this morning upon his arrival at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport.
Sinam Rokeshon was the lone athlete from Manipur in the gold medal winning Indian men's team at the inaugural edition of the  Kho Kho World Cup held from January 13 to 19 at  the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. As many as 20 men's teams competed for the top honours in this world event.
Rokeshon was warmly received and garlanded by functionaries of Manipur Amateur Kho-Kho Association, members of Sekmai Kho-Kho Association, Koujengleima Youth Development Organisation and Awang Sekmai Apunba Nupi Lup on his arrival.
Speaking on the sidelines, the athlete expressed happiness at being able to be a part of the gold medal winning National team and expressed gratitude to all involved in guiding and shaping his athletic career.
He made it to the National team through his perseverance and hard work and unwavering guidance from local and State Kho Kho association, he said. He however expressed regret over Kho-Kho's lack of popularity among other sports disciplines in the State and presence of fewer Kho-Kho enthusiasts and supporters. Acknowledging Manipur's untapped potential, he also sought support from all to help promote and boost Kho-Kho. Manipur can surely dominate the Kho-Kho map in a few years if more assistance and support pour in, Rokeshon added.
Notably, India sealed the men's title in the inaugural Kho-Kho World Cup 2025 with a 54-36 victory over Nepal in the final.
