THOUBAL/UKHRUL, Jan 24: As held across India, "National Girl Child Day-2025" was celebrated today at Kshetri Shanglen located at Thoubal Melaground in Thoubal district.
The celebration held under the theme " Empowering Girls For a Bright Future" was organised jointly by Integrated Rural Development Service Organisation (IRDSO), WinG Thoubal and Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR)
The event was attended by Deputy Commissioner Thoubal, Ahanthem Subhash, Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights, chairperson, Keisham Pradeepkumar and Manipur State Commission for Women, chairperson, Thumli Tiningpham Monsang as presidium members.
Addressing the gathering, IRDSO Wangjing, chief functionary, Nonibala Narengbam said that National Girl Child Day is observed with the objectives to promote awareness about the rights of the girl, to increase the awareness on the importance of female education, ensure the health and well being of girls.
The chief guest, DC Thoubal, Ahanthem Subhash in his speech highlighted the importance of empowering girls and the rights of girl children.

'National Girl Child Day' was also observed today at DRDA Conference Hall, Hamleikhong in Ukhrul district organised by the Ukhrul District Health Society, Social Welfare and One stop centre Ukhrul under the aegis of National Health Mission.
The event was held under the theme "Empowering Girls For A Bright Future".
Speaking at the occasion, DC Ukhrul Kengoo Zuringla who attended as the chief guest of the function stated that observation of 'National Girl Child Day' clearly indicates the Government's concern in nurturing girls.
She said that parents or guardians have to identify the talents of every girl and provide them the opportunity to progress and succeed in life.
Speaking as a resource person, C Luithui stated that the common mindset of gender stereotypes have to be abandoned by all.
"Gender biased stigmatization must be stopped and women should be given more space to make independent decisions to progress together," said Luithui.
Luithui also stressed on the rights of a woman to safeguard from maltreatment.
Later as part of the event, the chief guest distributed a special gift to 52 girls including 6 baby girl children born this week as a support and encouragement for being born as women.
The programme was also attended by DPO Shimreipam Woleng, Dr Pamza Luikham, CDPOs, staff and girsl from Eden home and shelter home, Ukhrul.
