IMPHAL, Jan 24 : In a heartwarming display of philanthropy, Wings of Hope, a charitable trust, has given a ray of hope to a widow in need to restart her life by providing her with the resources to start her own poultry farm.
Sharmila (name changed), a 36 year old widow who lost her husband in the course of the crisis in Manipur in 2023 is a resident of Senjam near Koutruk.   She is now the lone bread earner in a family of five with aged father & mother-in-laws, a son & a daughter whose education is being supported by the “Wings of Hope”, said the Trust in a statement.
"She needed further work to earn a livelihood for the family. The Wings of Hope provided the means, support and above all hope, to start a mini poultry farm in her backyard. On Dec 12, 2024, she began to work on her dream with 300 chicks with their feed, medicines etc purchased from the supplier through an interest free soft loan from our Trust," it said.
Saying that the chicks grew healthy in 45 days (70 died), the Trust maintained that a bulk procurer came and bought the chicks weighing 520 kg altogether.
The total amount she received after the hard work brought smiles to Sharmila’s stressed face, it added.
Sharmila has been able to cope up with her children going to school, tending to the back breaking household chores and yet looking into the dreams and hopes ahead, to get out of despair, the Trust said and added that the widow has earned an honest, respectable and a fairly comfortable earning.
"She dreams of continuing with this journey “From Despair - Dreams & to Hope”. We shall be around to provide the “Wings” to such dreams. What a wonderful flight it has been so far," the Trust said while extending gratitude to all donors and well wishers.
