IMPHAL, Jan 21 : Salam Imocha, Judge of Fast Track Special Court number 1 Manipur on Tuesday convicted a 65 year old man under Section 6 of POCSO Act for sexually assaulting a minor nearly six years back on July 9, 2019.
The judgment order was announced in an open Court after it was kept reserved after the final hearing of the trial case on October 23 last year against convict Nongthombam Ramesh 65, s/o (L) Nodiya of Tera Loukrakpam Leikai Maibi Leirak.
The sentence hearing will be held on January 24.
The case was on against the convict after the mother of the victim lodged a complaint with the Imphal West women police station.
The complainant said that her minor daughter was sexually assaulted on July 9, 2019 by the convict inside a room cum shop rented to the convict somewhere in Imphal West.
The IO of the case, after the completion of the investigation of the case, submitted a charge-sheet against the convict before the Court for trial
To bring the charge levelled against the convict beyond any reasonable doubt, the IO produced eight prosecution witnesses, 18 exhibits and other material objects.
The convict also produced three defence witnesses during the trial of the case in defence.
The Court after hearing the submission of both the parties convicted Ramesh under Section 6 of POCSO Act.
