PM greets on Statehood Day
Guwahati, Jan 21
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday greeted the people of three North East States – Tripura, Manipur, and Meghalaya – on their 54th Statehood Day.
“Greetings to the people of Manipur on their Statehood Day. We are incredibly proud of the role played by the people of Manipur towards India’s development. My best wishes for the progress of Manipur,” PM Modi wrote on X.
On January 21, 1972, Tripura, Manipur, and Meghalaya officially became full-fledged States, and this day is celebrated annually as Tripura, Manipur, and Meghalaya Foundation Day.
Each State organizes cultural programs, parades, and public gatherings, emphasizing its unique traditions and contributions to the nation.
Manipur became a State in 1972 but its journey began much earlier. Known as Kangleipak in ancient times, it was a princely State until it merged with India in 1949.
Its strategic location, bordered by Myanmar, Nagaland, and Mizoram, makes it a cultural and geographical bridge between South Asia and Southeast Asia.
