IMPHAL, Jan 22: The State Cabinet has decided to hold the seventh session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly from February 10.
A Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister N Biren was held today at Tamenglong mini secretariat and the meeting deliberated on several agendas.
In a Facebook post, Chief Minister N Biren wrote “Important decision from the Cabinet meeting held in Tamenglong today : Commencement of the 7th Session of the Twelfth Manipur Legislative Assembly from February 10, 2025.”
The Cabinet meeting resolved to table the draft Manipur Tenancy Bill 2025 in the forthcoming Assembly session.
N Biren further wrote, “implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0, Comprehensive City Mobility Plan for Imphal and Thoubal, etc were also discussed.”
Notably, the sixth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die on August 12, 2024 before the Governor prorogued the same session on August 29.
The State Cabinet gave its consent to the draft Manipur Tenancy Bill 2025 during today’s meeting.
Sources said that provisions of the Model Tenancy Act 2021 would be adopted for the Manipur Tenancy Bill 2025 but there may be certain modifications based on the requirements of the State.
The State Cabinet also gave its assent to implementation of the Comprehensive City Mobility Plan (Imphal and Thoubal) which was prepared by the Delhi-based School of Planning and Architecture.
The Cabinet meeting decided to approach the Department of Economic Affairs and New Development Bank to extend the loan period of Manipur Water Supply Project till June 2, 2026.
Notably, the Manipur Water Supply Project being implemented by PHED is an externally aided project.
The Cabinet further decided to seek another six months beyond June 2026 after assessing the ground situation, said the sources.
The project’s revised cost (ex post-facto) of Rs 3,318.89 crore was also approved by the Cabinet.
The Manipur Water Supply Project was launched on June 3, 2020 after a trilateral agreement was signed among the State Government, Government of India and NDB.
The Cabinet meeting also gave approval to the enforcement of Manipur Money Lenders Act 2024.
It also deliberated on implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0, Manipur Urban Roads, Drainage and Asset Management Improvement Project, Risk Informed GIS Based Master Planning for Imphal and Moirang, said the sources.
