IMPHAL, Jan 21 : Fourteen journalists from North East have landed in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh to attend Maha Kumbh 2025 as part of a three-day media tour organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) in collaboration with the Government of Uttar Pradesh from 21st to 23rd January 2025.
Representing Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, this delegation will have a unique opportunity to report on one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world, said a statement issued by PIB.
It also said that the delegation from North East includes representatives from The Sangai Express, The People’s Chronicle, Arunachal Front, Asomiya Pratidin, Dainik Asom, DY365, Time8, U Peitngor, The Morung Express, Hornbill TV, Summit Times, Swatantra Aawaj, Headlines Tripura and Satyabhashan.
Scheduled from January 13 to February 26, 2025, the Maha Kumbh is deeply rooted in mythology, tracing its origins to the Samudra Manthan, or the churning of the ocean, where drops of nectar were said to have fallen at Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik. The sacred bath taken during this event symbolizes soul purification and spiritual enlightenment, it said.
This year, the Maha Kumbh is expected to host over 45 crore devotees, including approximately 15 lakh international visitors—significantly higher than the 25 crore attendees recorded during the 2019 Kumbh Mela.
The PIB’s media tours, organized from various regions of the country, are designed to highlight how Maha Kumbh promotes unity across caste, religion, and culture. Beyond its spiritual significance, the festival also serves as a global showcase of India’s rich cultural heritage, vibrant traditions, and economic prosperity, it added.
