Govt calls for promotion of aquatic floriculture

IMPHAL, Jan 21 : Director of Horticulture & Soil Conservation K Devdutta Sharma has asserted that the Government is making efforts to ensure year-round supply of flowers through adoption of aquatic floriculture under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY).
The Director made the statement while kicking off the two-day awareness cum training programme on "Commercial Floriculture: Cultivation Techniques and Management" held at the conference hall of the Directorate of Horticulture and Soil Conservation.
Speaking on the occasion, K Devdutta Sharma highlighted the growing demand for flowers for various utilities and the inability of the State to meet this demand.
Stating that efforts are being made to promote aquatic floriculture by growing different aquatic plants, he added that discussions are also underway to introduce floriculture in vertical farming.
He further highlighted the need for a scientific and systematic approach to commercialize floriculture in Manipur. During the two-day programme, experienced experts will impart valuable knowledge about different cultivation and management techniques, he added.
Thaithuilung Panmei, Commissioner and Secretary of Horticulture & Soil Conservation; Md Zakir Hussain Khan, Additional Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation and prominent officials of the Directorate also graced the programme.
