All of a sudden I was invited to a very special 9th Foundation Day Celebration of Ima Chenghi by the founder Pabung Sanasam Birendra. The venue was at Sanagaiprou Mamang Leikai, Community Hall. Various eminent personalities attended the celebration and they also expressed their own opinions regarding the benefits of using this traditional herbal shampoo, known as Chenghi (ricewater in English). Each and every speaker talked about the experiences they had since their childhood or schooling days. The most surprising scene of the day was that we could see only black, silky and beautiful hair on that day. It is a clear example and an absolutely clear proof of using Chenghi. Among the Chenghi users, I was also one of them and I too expressed my feedbacks of using it briefly. Wonderfully, every speaker delivered his/her speech only for 4 minutes that made the function quite unique and meaningful which I never found earlier in Manipur.
Varieties of ingredients which are contained in Ima Chenghi are as follows : Ricewater, Pogostemon, Lemon grass, Amla, Perilla, Goatweed, Mugwort, Karpur, China rose, Castor, Meyna, Pursley, sticky daisy, creeping wood sorrel, Golden dock etc. In the interest of viewers who do not understand Manipuri, I also mentioned these ingredients in English during my short speech of 4 minutes. People who take care of hair may feel elated to see varieties of ingredients which are all locally available like Heikru, Khamela, Khongjai-napi, Laibak-ngou, Karpur, Jubakusum, Kege Angangba, Heibimana, Leibak Kundo, Lalukok, Yensil, Torong-khongchak, Hanurei, Sang- breimana, etc. displayed in the hall. In this modern busy days, one may find difficult to collect all these for preparation of Chenghi.
A confusing question arises from the minds of common people. From where is rice water collected ? The same question, I, too asked. As a satisfactory answer, Pabung Birendra told us that he regularly goes and collects from grand feasts organized at different places, temples, etc. In the meantime, the founder himself also uses this Chenghi regularly. As a result we can easily notice his black and healthy hair as a clear proof.
I never expect such a huge crowd comprising of eminent personalities might gather on the 1st September, 2024 during the 9th Foundation Day Celebration of Ima Chenghi. One interesting and special appearance of the day was Benita Laishram, a renowned Manipuri folk performer. She sang a unique song on that day while Miss Lansana Chanu presented a folk song based on Chenghi as an opening song.
So, I would like to appeal to use this product regularly so as to preserve and promote this lovely traditional herbal shampoo which can uplift our soul, which can keep our heads cool, prevents from hair fall and hair greying. If our mind is cool, everything is possible to think, to utilize creative ideas, to explore, to pull out hidden abilities for a peaceful and prosperous Kangleipak a land of jewels. Chenghi can be considered as a traditional, medicinal and emotional besides elixir to hair life.
MY EXPERIENCE OF USING CHENGHI
Since I was brought up in Sanjenbam village, most people during those days maintained earthen pots, also known as Chenghi Chaphu in Manipuri language. My grandmother advised me to use it and as a result right from my childhood days, at around 1987-88, when I was in 3rd standard, I had been using chenghi. During those days, most of the ingredients were found in plenty at our village. Sometime, when time come where “Chenghi” was not well prepared, we only used “Chenghi Anouba”, which is the fresh rice-water without putting any ingredient in it.
As a long-term user and consistently using of this traditional hair shampoo, I can enjoy the following benefits:
(To be contd)
