IMPHAL, Jan 2 : Inaugurated over three years back, the Primary Health Sub Centre (PHSC) at Khoibu Khullen remains dysfunctional as no doctors have been sent to the health centre as of yet.
Located about 75 Km from Imphal, Khoibu Khullen is a village situated under Machi Block of Tengnoupal district which is home to about 400 Khoibu people.
Apart from people having no access to health care facilities, the village is also lagging behind in terms of infrastructure thereby causing serious inconvenience to the residents.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Ch Shangkungmang, a resident of Khoibu Village, said that there still is no sign of development in his village although the Government has been focusing on rural development through a number of programmes and initiatives.
Saying that Khoibu Khullen is an old settlement, he said that the residents have been facing all sorts of problems, especially in seeking health care facilities.
The villagers were elated when the Government constructed a PHSC at Khoibu Khullen under Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karya-kram (PMJVK) in 2019-20, he said.
Continuing that the building of PHSC was inaugurated over three years back, he maintained that no doctors, however, have been posted at the health centre till today.
He also said that the PHSC at Khoibu Khullen doesn't have the infrastructure and equipment required to provide health care facilities to the people.
Saying that an order was issued to post a nurse and a Grade-IV staff at the PHSC amid the unrest in Manipur, Shangkungmang added that the nurse who is a Kuki is being utilised at Tengnoupal instead as per what he heard.
The Government also hasn't built residential quarters for medical practitioners, he said and added that the villagers are ready to provide the required place for the medical practitioners to reside if the Government sends them.
Saying that the CHC at Heirok Part-2 in Thoubal is the nearest health centre for them, he said that they face serious inconvenience going to distant places such as Imphal and Thoubal for treatment of emergency cases.
Heirok is situated about 35 Kms from Khoibu Khullen and the road connecting the two villages is extremely bad, he said and added that traversing along the worn out route with sick people is fraught with danger and many patients have died on the way.
We even joke that a person having stones in the urinary tract will get healed if he/she travels along the bumpy road, he said while referring to how pathetic the road has become.
Farming and making yangkok (a winnowing basket/fan) are the main occupations of residents of Khoibu Khullen, he said and added that they mostly sell their products at Heirok, Wangjing, Kakching, Thoubal.
Expressing desire for the Government to repair the road connecting Khoibu Khullen and Heirok and to send at least one doctor at the village, he said that people from nearby villages will also get some relief in seeking health care facilities if the PHSC starts operating.
