Thoudam Debendra mourned

IMPHAL, Jan 2 : Former MLAs of the State gathered to mourn the passing of Late Thoudam Debendra Singh, former Minister, MLA and Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Jiribam AC, at the office of Manipur Ex-MLA Welfare Association at Assembly Secretariat, Chingmeirong this afternoon.
Thoudam Debendra was 87. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
The former MLAs offered prayers for the deceased soul to rest in peace and observed a two-minute silence to pay their respects.
According to a statement issued by the Manipur Ex-MLA Welfare Association, Thoudam Debendra Singh secured seven victories in the State Assembly elections (1980, 1984, 1990, 1995, 2002, 2007 and 2012) from Jiribam AC. He also served as a Cabinet Minister through multiple terms.
Lauding Th Debendra as a dedicated politician, noble humanist and a dear friend, the Association also extended their condolences to the bereaved family and well-wishers.
Additionally, Ksh Biren Singh, president, Janata Dal (United) Manipur State Unit condoled the demise of the former Minister who had an illustrious career spanning more than 50 years.
On behalf of JD (U), Ksh Biren Singh also mourned the passing of Dr Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
