Manipur honours late Kayisii with love, admiration

IMPHAL, Jan 19: The mortal remains of MLA N Kayisii, who passed away at 59 after a prolonged illness yesterday, were accorded full State honours today.
At his official residence at Lamphelpat, Imphal, the mortal remains of the MLA were given the guard of honour by a contingent of the Manipur Rifles.
Several State Cabinet Ministers, Opposition leaders and members of different political parties paid floral tributes to the mortal remains of N Kayisii.
Forest Minister Thongam Biswajit, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai, Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Okram Ibobi, Deputy CLP leader K Ranjit, NPP National vice president Yumnam Joykumar, Khangabok AC MLA Okram Surjakumar, Wangoi AC MLA Khuraijam Loken, Oinam AC MLA I Nalini, Kshetrigao AC MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan and Moirang AC MLA Thongam Shanti were present.
After the floral tributes were given with full State honours, the mortal remains of the MLA were taken to his native village, Makhaan Khuman in Senapati district's Tadubi Assembly Constituency.
The funeral will take place at the village on Monday.
Notably, mourning the MLA's demise, the State has declared half holiday on Monday for Government offices and educational institutions.
At the ceremony held at the MLA's official residence at Lamphelpat today, NPP National vice president and former Deputy CM, Yumnam Joykumar extended condolences and shared the grief and pain of the bereaved family members.
N Kayisii is survived by his wife, three sons and five daughters.
Condoling the demise of Kayisii, former Deputy CM Joykumar said he was a compassionate leader who believed in a united Manipur.
He was a leader who believed in coexistence and equality among the people in the hills and the valley. His demise is a great loss for the State, Joykumar said.
It may be noted that N Kayisii was the NPP's State unit president from March 2021 till his last breath.
He joined electoral politics at an early age and was elected as a Member of District Council (MDC) in 1987.
He contested the Manipur Legislative Assembly elections for the first time in 2000 as an Independent candidate from 49- Tadubi AC.
N Kayisii was first elected as a Member of Manipur Legislative Assembly on NPP ticket in 2017, and  he served as the Minister of Tribal Affairs & Hills, and Fisheries.
He was elected as an MLA for the second time on NPP ticket in 2022.
Following his demise, many individuals and organisations have extended condolences.
All Colleges Tribal Students' Union Imphal said N Kayisii was a dedicated public servant, champion of tribal welfare, and an inspirational leader.
"His tireless efforts to promote the well-being of marginalized communities will always be remembered, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations," said the union.
The union expressed condolences to the bereaved family, friends and people of Tadubi AC.
"May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire us to work towards a brighter future for all," expressed the union.
