6th North East Thang-Ta Festival commences

IMPHAL, Jan 19 : The Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur today kickstarted 6th edition of North East Thang-Ta Festival at Thang-Ta Shanglen, Yumnam Huidrom.
The 10-day festival is organised with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The festival was formally opened in the presence of Moirangthem Rajen, State Kala Akademi award recipient and Principal, PAHULASHI, Mayaikoibi; Huidrom Premkumar, president of the Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur and Sh Th Priyokumar, former secretary, Thang-Ta Federation of India as presidium members.
As many as 120 athletes and teachers from 10 Thang-Ta institutes/ organisations are participating in this festival, said Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur in a press release.
The speakers stressed on the elements of discipline,  food habits, lifestyle and practices involved in Thang-Ta during the inaugural programme. They also observed slow paced Thang-Ta movement despite assistance provided by the Ministry of Culture and underscored the need for introspecting the issues and putting in sincere efforts towards the promotion and development of the indigenous martial art form, it added.
