IMPHAL, Jan 18 : Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sana-jaoba has requested Union Minister of Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to impress upon Sangeet Natak Aka-demi, New Delhi to recom- mend inclusion of Lai Haraoba in the UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
In a letter, the MP said that Department of Art and Culture of Manipur submitted a proposal along with all dossiers of Lai Haraoba to Sangeet Natak Akademi on October 15, 2024 for nomination to UNESCO for inscription in the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Saying that Lai Haraoba which is performed in Manipur, Assam, Tripura, Bangladesh, Myanmar etc has a hidden and highest philosophical aspect of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam meaning 'the whole world is one family', Leishemba sought help from the Union Minister to send the recommendation.
