MLA N Kayisii passes away, many condole

IMPHAL, Jan 18: NPP State unit president, MLA N Kayisii passed away at his residence after a prolonged illness on Saturday.
The MLA from 49-Tadubi Assembly Consti- tuency is survived by wife and 8 children-3 sons and 5 daughters.
Reliable sources said the MLA was battling "stomach cancer".
Mourning the demise of the sitting MLA, the State has declared half-holiday for all Government offices and educational institutes on January 20.
N Kayisii was the Minister of Tribal Affairs, Hills and Fisheries from 2017 to 2020 in the first N Biren Singh-led Government.
He won the 2022 elections on NPP ticket.
His mortal remains will be brought to his native village, Makhan Khuman on Sunday after State honour and condolence service at his official residence at Imphal.
The funeral is expected to take place on Monday.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh, several Ministers and MLAs have reportedly visited the residence of the MLA and offered condolences.
"I am profoundly aggrieved to learn about the demise of Hon'ble MLA of Tadubi Assembly Constituency, N Kayisii after a prolonged illness... My thoughts and prayers are with his bereaved family. I pray for eternal peace of the departed soul," N Biren Singh said in a condolence message.
N Kayisii's tenure as an MLA not only marked his sincere commitment for the development of his Constituency, but also witnessed significant contribution toward solving many issues faced by the State, N Biren said.
"His demise is not only a loss for his family but an irreparable loss for the entire State. The void created by his demise would be extremely difficult to fill," said the Chief Minister.
A brief look at MLA N Kayisii's  political journey
N Kayisii joined electoral politics at an early age and was elected as a Member of District Council (MDC) in 1987.
He was an Executive Member of the Mao Council during 1992-94.
He contested in the Manipur Legislative Assembly elections 2000 as an Independent candidate from 49- Tadubi AC.
He contested in the 2002 Manipur Legislative Assembly elections on a ticket of Federal Party of Manipur from 49-Tadubi AC.
He later contested in the 2007 Manipur Legislative Assembly elections on RSP (Revolutionary Socialist Party) ticket from 49-Tadubi AC.
He served as the vice president of BJP Manipur Pradesh from 2012 to 2016.
He served as a National Executive Committee Member of the BJP ST Morcha.
N Kayisii was first elected as a Member of Manipur Legislative Assembly on NPP Ticket in 2017 from 49-Tadubi Assembly Constituency, and served as the Minister of Tribal Affairs & Hills, and Fisheries.
He was elected as an MLA for a second term on NPP ticket in 2022 from 49-Tadubi Assembly Constituency.
He served as NPP State unit president from March 2021 till his last breath.
Meanwhile, many organisations including the Senapati District Students' Association and Maralui Karalimei Swijoikang (Maram Students' Union) too have condoled his demise.
N Kayisii was not just a politician. He was a beacon of hope and inspiration for many. The loss of such a dedicated and compassionate leader has left an indelible void in "our hearts" and in the community he served so faithfully, said the Senapati District Students' Association, sharing the grief and pain of the bereaved family members.
N Kayisii was a dedicated public servant and leader who contributed to the welfare of Tadubi Constituency and the State of Manipur in various capacities as an MLA.
"His passing leaves a void, but his memories and contribution to Manipur's growth will be cherished forever," said Maram Students' Union.
