2 held with drugs worth Rs 62 Cr at CCpur

IMPHAL, Jan 17: Two drug smugglers including a woman were arrested by security forces from Churachandpur on January 16 along with drugs worth around Rs 62 crore.  
A man and a woman who came in a four-wheeler (Fortuner) in a suspicious manner were detained by security forces during a routine frisking and checking exercise at Mata Village, Churachandpur yesterday, sources said.
A column of Assam Rifles deployed at Headquarters Veng established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post at Mata Village around 11.30 pm on January 15.
At around 4.30 am, a suspected vehicle (Fortuner) bearing registration number UP 16 DQ5045 was stopped by the MVCP, said a press release issued by Hqs IG AR (S).
During the checking of the vehicle, security forces found 208 soap cases of brown sugar, 1,73,000 number of World is Yours (WY)/Yaba tablets and Rs 3,37,500 cash concealed inside secret chambers.
On spot verification, the two persons were identified as L Pausuanlal Simte (38) and Mrs Chingsen (36), both residents of Bible Hill Renkai in Churachandpur District.
Both were arrested on the spot by observing necessary formalities and the drugs were also seized from their possession, added the statement.
Four smart mobile phones with Indian and Myanmar SIM cards were also seized from their possession.
The police station concerned of Churachandpur district has registered a case against the duo under ND&PS Act for necessary legal procedure.
The arrested drug smugglers were produced before a Court in Churachandpur district yesterday and the Court remanded the drug smugglers to police custody till January 23.
The drugs seized from the duo were worth more than Rs 62 crore in the international market with the 208 soap cases of Brown Sugar valued at approximately Rs 12 crore, and two lakh WY/Yaba lakh valued at around Rs 50 crore, said the sources.
