IMPHAL, Jan 16 : Urging the Manipur Government to provide a means of livelihood to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Shiv Sena Manipur State Unit has appealed for allotment of empty plots of land to the IDPs where they can engage in farming activities.
Speaking to media persons at Babupara, Dr M Tombi, president, Shiv Sena Manipur State Unit highlighted the plight of IDPs who do not have access to proper education, food and housing which has left a majority of them suffering from depression and other ailments.
For the welfare of displaced families, he urged the Government to take up this measure of alloting them empty plots of land and giving them a way to earn a living.
On another note, in order to combat the rising prices of commodities and the lack of proper mechanism to address this issue, the Shiv Sena Manipur State Unit president called for a collective effort to increase the yield of food crops and urged farmers to take up crop rotation.
Speaking about the 21-month old conflict, he addressed the renewed incidents of gunfire and drone bombing and said that the authorities concerned should stop conducting combing operations in the regions where the bombs and bullets land and instead carry out the operations in the areas from where the bombs were lobbed or fired.
He also urged all citizens, political parties, CSOs and indigenous communities to work together for peace and normalcy.
Dr M Tombi further lauded the Chief Minister for launching additional flight service of Alliance Air to three new destinations from Imphal, two days after the Manipur Democratic Alliance submitted a memo- randum to the Manipur Governor calling for a reduction in airfares.
On the occasion, youths from different parts of Imphal West who joined Shiv Sena were accorded a warm welcome and their positions in Shiv Sena Imphal West Youth Wing were announced.
