Remand for SoO cadre arrested with drugs, explosives

IMPHAL, Jan 16 : The Special Court of NDPS Manipur on Thursday allowed formal arrest of the cadre of Hmar People’s Convention-Democratic (HPC-D) who was arrested along with explosives and brown sugar from Jiribam on January 9 last.
Another FIR is also filed against accused Lalchuoilo @ Lalchoilou Hmar (48) of Lungthullien Colony in Pherzawl district staying at Rengkai Village Churachandpur district in connection with the bombardment of a house belonging to one Ningthoujam Ibungo on December 11 last year by Kuki militants.
The accused was produced before the Court by a team of Borobekra police through video conferencing on completion of his police custody remand period along with a prayer to send him to judicial custody.
What the Special PP submitted
Lalchuoilo was arrested along with 446 gram of brown sugar and explosives viz 11 detonators, 20 explosive sticks and one meter of safety fuse while he was travelling on a passenger speed boat from Tipaimukh to Hmarkhulien in Cachar, Assam on January 9.
It was further submitted that the accused is a cadre of HPC-D, a signatory of Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact.
The militant was instructed by one Salem Hmar, a collector of HPC-D of Tipaimukh area to collect 44 soap cases of brown sugar from Tipaimukh on January 8, 2025.
As directed, he collected the contraband and spent the night at the house of one Lalrohlem Hmar at Tipaimukh.
The accused was arrested by police and Assam Rifles personnel while he was on a passenger speed boat on January 9.
Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the associates of the accused.
The Court, after hearing the submission and on perusal of the material on record, remanded the accused to judicial custody till January 30.
Meanwhile, another team of Borobekra police filed an application to make formal arrest of the accused in connection with the vandalisation of a house belonging to a Meetei family on December 11 last year using bombs. The Special Court after hearing the submission of Special PP and on perusal of the application allowed formal arrest of the accused for smooth investigation of the case.
