IMPHAL, Jan 16 : The JAC against the brutal killing of Md Shahnawas has resolved to not claim the body until the matter is resolved amicably.
In a statement, the JAC contended that Md Shah-nawas, a driver, was abducted by some unknown persons on January 14 at around 6.45 pm and the abductors demanded Rs 5 lakh as ransom.
The person, however, was found dead at Thoubal district hospital the next day (January 15), the JAC continued.
Saying that they came across a press note of AT Unit-II Andro which flatly rejected their involvement in the incident even though the police have said that the abductors were AT members, the JAC asked all concerned to clarify which statement of the two, the police version or the AT version, is true within 24 hours. The JAC went on to state that the AT issued their statement even before the family of Shahnawas or the JAC accused them of the killing and the same is shocking.
It also said that the AT portraying the deceased as a drug dealer in their statement is condemnable.
Urging the State Government to hand over the case to NIA and take up necessary actions to prevent similar incidents from happening again, the JAC said that they will launch a series of  agitation  if their demands are not entertained.
